“If I could give more than five (5) stars, I would! My experience with Signs for San Diego was nothing less than exceptional from start to finish. As a Project Manager for one of Gable’s largest clients, I expect our vendors to deliver high-quality product and/or services.”
We got both of our restaurant signs from them, and we couldn’t be happier! They were affordable, had incredible customer service, and the quality of their product matches their customer service! They even took care of some of our street light issues at no additional charge since they were already on-site with the lift!
They have a new customer for life!
Having a bold, impactful sign is simply a requirement for all retail business.
In many cases the sign exists, but your branding of it does not. Creating a beautiful face is fundamental to business success. Your major signs have two purposes, to “wayfind” or tell people where you are and to attract or “sell” the solution to the customer’s problems (or needs). If your customer cannot find you, you will not sell. Remember a business with no sign is a sign of no business
The tenant face is always a panel that fits into an existing sign.
It often is a monument panel, but sign cabinets above the front door, pylons, directories are also common. These panels or faces have specific sizes, construction and mounting details. Some are “pans” and screw in, others slide in, some are large others small, some are aluminum and others acrylic, still others are polycarbonate. The details matter is the execution. The main reason is to attract.
The reason to locate into a high visibility area is to attract customers.
These customers may be visiting you retail neighbor or be on the search for a product or service. Finding your business is 100% a function of seeing you. All significant retail locations depend on traffic. Traffic from the highway or the major street, in some cases foot traffic. The more traffic the more expensive the space. If you can pull in a higher percentage of that traffic it directly impacts your business. The first step is to get your business on the monument sign. If there are other opportunities available, a directory, a wayfinding sign, an over entrance sign cabinet, or other chance – take it. These are all elements of your business’s success. The next step is to create a bold and impactful face. Your ability to get a small edge is here – in the signage. Don’t “cheap out”. If you have a sign that is only 80% as effective as it could be, you can easily leave hundreds of thousands of dollars of business unrealized. Saving money by not having a sign location, or making a lesser sign means leaving money on the table.
There are many type, but three are the most common, The Pan sign face, The slide in translucent sign face, and the slide in Aluminum sign face.
After these there are a number of less used techniques such as a screw in face, a fixed face and more
Pan face. The Pan face looks a lot like a large shoe box lid.
It has a lip or side that runs from 1” to 4” deep. These are made of Aluminum and fit over flange. The face of advertising surface tend to be an aluminum cutout backed by acrylic.
Light from florescent Lamps or LEDs comes through the acrylic and open areas of the aluminum.
These rely on your branding, and style elements. We can help you with the pan construction and the beautiful face with our expert design, translucent vinyl abilities and create a perfect pan face for you
Slide in translucent sign face: These tend to be Acrylic, but bigger panels can be polycarbonate or Lexan. The entire panel is translucent. Then is lights shins through it. We design the face off your brand name and logos, or other graphic elements that help you pull in customers. These are normally translated into cut translucent vinyl shapes applied to the face. Here is a hint on getting a better face – use sheets of colored translucent vinyl over digital prints. The digital print uses a white vinyl and the color is a very thin layer of ink. It is not as good of a color filter as the sheet of colored vinyl and tends to look washed out at night. Printed vinyl also has a shorter life in the UV radiation from the sun. Ever seen sign faces that are darkening or even black – those were digital prints.
Slide in Aluminum sign face The two type of faces above tend to be more popular that the slide in aluminum panel. This is a pan face without the pan sides. It slides in a channel, either an extrusion or an angle.
They are a sheet of Aluminum, cut to size. Then your design is routed into the face. It is Acrylic backs. Joining the acrylic to the aluminum is done with adhesive or a stud welder. Either way, there is a layer of acrylic on the back, that must clear the side of the sign to slide in. These can be tricky. We know exactly what to do to make these sliders “POP”.
What type of faces are there?
There are many type, but three are the most common: Cut vinyl on acrylic, Digital print on Acrylic, routed face, and push-through. There are others, but these 4 are the most common.
This is a popular way to make a monument panel or face. Translucent film is laid down on a piece of acrylic or polycarbonate. The shapes and layers are your design. These layers act as a color filter. Creating the logo, business name and other features you want. The film is colors all the way through, so it is a superior color, vibrance and durability
There are two ways to do this, with a vinyl roll print or a direct to substrate print. The amount of ink, the layers and the UV resistance tend to make this less desirable that the method above.
Routed Faces are fabricated aluminum surfaces with the desired image removed.
Your design on the face is routed-out and an acrylic panel is placed behind. The light passes through the routed portion only. Face is non-translucent or opaque making it black at night.
A push-through face is where the aluminum face is routed out and the acrylic is shaped with a tall letter and pushed-through the face.
Because the acrylic is higher than the aluminum face there is a dimensional quality. At night the light is channeled or directed through the face or the sides producing an edge lighting.
