Steel and galvanized metal were widely used many years ago. These materials are cheaper, but they rust. Nearly all the signs are now Aluminum. The only place one sees galvanized materials now are where cost is a huge issue. It is a way to lower the price, but the cost over time is actually higher. Steel Pipe for Sign Poles

Most large signs, Monuments, Pylons and pole signs use one or two steel pipes for the support. The electrical connections often run inside and sometimes on the outside of these pipes. We can help you with the right wall thickness, diameter and type of structural sign poles. We also use professional engineering to help with the correct materials and designs. This allows you to get the permits, the approvals and the government inspections done.

The poles are one thing, the footers are another

The engineering also allows us to know the depth and width of the foundation and the rebar. The depth and width are somewhat exchangeable. A spread footing and a deeper footing can do the same thing. The whole scheme is a function of the type of soil, the compaction of that soil. It also depends on the wind loading. Wind loading requirements are different in different areas. The area of the sign also drives the force the foundation must support. In some cases, poles are mounted above the concrete, but in most cases the pipe is deep in the concrete.
